Puerta norte de la muralla de la antigua ciudad, construida en el siglo XIII por Alfonso X el Sabio. Fue llamado primitivamente Puerta del Mar y también Puerta Principal de la Villa. El nombre actual lo recibe por un lienzo al óleo de la Virgen del Pópulo Romano, expuesto en una hornacina abierta en el muro. También es posible visitar la capilla de Nuestra Señora del Pópulo, del siglo XVI, situada sobre este arco.

It is the north gate of the former village, built in the 13th century during the reign of Alfonso X "The Wise". In the beginning it was called Sea Gate and also the Village Main Gate. The current name is due to a canvas of the Virgin of El Populo which was exhibited in a niche in the same wall. You also can visit the 16th century's El Populo Chapel situated above the arch.
