Se descubrió en 1980 y está considerado uno de los mayores edificios de este tipo en España. Es de finales del Siglo I aC., y fue mandado construir por Lucio Balbo. Según los arqueólogos, este hallazgo confirma la grandeza de la ciudad de Gades, que tuvo un censo de población superior a las 80.000 personas cuando la urbe dominaba el comercio del Atlántico y era una de las ciudades más prosperas del imperio romano.

It was discovered in 1980 and it is now considered to be one of the major buildings of its type in Spain. Lucio Balbo ordered its construction at the end of 1st Century BC and, according to the archaeologists, this discovery confirms the greatness of Gades city, whose census of population showed over 80.000 inhabitants registered by the time in which the city dominated the trade of the Atlantic Ocean and was one of the most prosperous cities of the Roman empire.
